About Windsong...
If you're viewing this website, chances are you've suffered the loss of a loved one or are preplanning funeral arrangements. To help you understand what we provide, I think it's important to share with you my background and the story of how we began.

After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, I served as a United States Marine Corps pilot, completing Navy flight training and earning my "Wings of Gold." This began my aviation career, which spanned 5 decades and included aircraft carrier flight operations, postgraduate studies in Aviation Safety, managing local airport Fixed Base Operations, worldwide corporate flight operations, and 31 years with United Airlines, including assignment as a Senior Flight Safety Investigator. I flew most of United's aircraft, and retired after my final 10 years as a Boeing 777 Captain flying all over the world.

A month before retiring from United in 2017, my wife suffered a massive brain aneurysm and wasn't expected to survive. She did, however, and has been in a persistent vegetative state ever since, cared for in a wonderful facility dedicated exclusively to those with acute brain injuries. Sadly, the severity of her condition made it physically impossible for me to care for her at home.

You might wonder why I've shared this with you. It's because I want you to know that every day of my life I deal with the emotional and psychological challenges of personal tragedy.

After acquiring an airplane so I could return to the beauty and serenity of the skies, several friends asked me to consider scattering the cremains of loved ones who had passed away. I researched the idea and decided to start Windsong Memorial Services. I invested a year forming our company, gaining the necessary FAA authorization and qualifications, and designing and flight testing the specialized equipment we use to carry and disperse cremains. Word of mouth brought our first two engagements, both performed in the beauty of New Hampshire's White Mountains. The effect of our final flights on those families was profound, and I believe it was for the following reasons.

A Final Flight brings a very comforting sense of serenity and closure because you are physically, emotionally, and psychologically releasing your loved one into the brightness and beauty of the sky. They are truly free.

My personal promise to you is that Windsong will always operate with the highest degree of safety and professionalism, with respect and reverence for your deceased loved one and profound awareness of the significance of your loss. I truly hope you'll reach out to let us help you on your journey.

I wish you peace.
